Many candidates find it difficult to understand why they need to prepare for the ASVAB paragraph comprehension exam. Of course, the problem them follows – why should I bother to study for the exam, then? Before we examined how to answer ASVAB paragraph comprehension practice questions, let’s first learn why you should learn about the topic in the first place.
Of course, this makes sense.
If you cannot find the positive reason to study a topic, we will never harvest the interest, nor motivation, to study that subject.
Paragraph comprehension is incredibly important. There are two main reasons for this:
- First – paragraph comprehension tests your ability to extract facts from written data. This is no different from the math test – only that test examines your ability to extract facts from numerical data.
- Second – paragraph comprehension is an examination based on language. Language is a fundamental part of communication and, through written language, we determine the facts and come to conclusions.
So, even though the paragraph comprehension exam appears irrelevant to a career in the military, that perception is in fact a falsity.
As a pending military candidate, you must first understand the positive reasons why you are being tested on specific elements of the exam. Once you appreciate those reasons, you can them mobilize those reasons to motivate your study in the coming weeks and months.
By beginning your study of the ASVAB paragraph comprehension exam as some of an irrelevance, you do your study and long-term performance something of a disservice. Your study will be less productive, and your performance on the day of the exam will suffer.
