Summary of Mechanical Comprehension
In the introduction to this ASVAB Mechanical Comprehension study guide, we looked at how the exam itself is structured and what time you will have available depending on the format of test – either written or computerized. We then went on to look at the relevancy of this section, particularly for those who wish to excel in some particular military specialty. In this regard, the ASVAB Mechanical Comprehension test plays an important role in developing your MOS score. From here, we undertook an effort to tackle many of the core areas covered on your exam, and how you should prepare by practicing more and more similar exam questions.
More specifically, though, we took a detailed look at the three main areas you will have to study:
- Basic Principles of Mechanics
- Principles of Mechanical Devices
- Structures and Properties of Materials
What Next?
You will need to re-study each of these sections, taking relevant notes along the way. Let’s not forget, at the same time, that you will need to practice the mathematical questions raised in these notes. By practicing the quiz questions available here on the membership program, you should have little problem grabbing these marks on the day of your exam. In addition, you will also need to focus on the underlying principles of each section. It’s quite easy to approach a mechanical exam with specialist detail, all the while forgetting about the basic principles that underlie them. In this regard, definitions and specific detail are important to remember.
Try to stick to one area of mechanical knowledge at a time. Given the diversity within each section, it is quite easy to become confused. You will avert such danger by tackling one specific area at a time, placing its knowledge into the appropriate context. This means when you analyze another device or principle, you will recall it in tandem with your previous study, instead of being overwhelmed by it. Let’s not also forget you are in fierce competition with every other candidate at the exam, all of whom are vying to take the same place in the military. As a consequence of this, you will need to push the boundaries of the grade you aim to achieve, and this can only be done with consistent, dedicated, and applied study.
