The ASVAB Paragraph Comprehension test is an exam testing your ability to read between the lines – in other words, examining your ability to identify and extract the relevant information in a given passage of words. This isn’t, of course, as simple as one would like to think and can, instead, confer significant annoyances to the military candidate in question. The ASVAB Paragraph Comprehension exam shouldn’t be interpreted as some irrelevant course of study but should be considered an exam of prime importance. We’ll come to some of the chief advantages later but one such advantage concerns the ability to interpret texts as well as learning how to ask the right questions when given the right information.

In the next of our ASVAB study guides, we take a look at the ASVAB Paragraph Comprehension exam. We begin by studying what the exam is all about, with this initial introduction serving to act as a spur to study as well as issuing a guide about what subjects you should study. Thereafter, we take a look at some examples of ASVAB Paragraph Comprehension questions – teaching you how to approach the question and harvest the best possible mark.

About ASVAB Paragraph Comprehension Exam

As one of a total of nine components of the totality of your ASVAB Test, the paragraph comprehension component is a small but equally significant aspect. In conjunction with the word knowledge component, these two tests are complementary to one another with the former dealing with extracting information from words, while the latter deals with the formation of grammatically and syntactically correct sentences. The allotted time of your ASVAB Paragraph Comprehension exam will depend upon whether you’re taking it in the computerized or written form. This depends on your location in the United States as well as the available resources of your locality. See the table below for more information:

It’s also worth considering the type of military career you intend to embark upon. Some military disciplines will require a greater degree of ASVAB Paragraph Comprehension skills than others. This isn’t to say that such skills are not relevant to all such disciplines, as they evidently are, but some disciplines are more communication oriented than others. By understanding the influence communication has in your particularly chosen career, you should apportion the importance this exam will have, and attain the appropriate result with this in mind.

In the next section, we will take a comprehensive look at how you should approach the ASVAB Paragraph Comprehension exam.
