The ASVAB Electronics Information test is a sub-test of your overall ASVAB test – this time taking a look at your knowledge of electricity, electrical systems, and electrical devices. If you’re familiar with working with electronics at home, you are probably familiar with some of the concepts detailed in this study guide. There are many different types of question you may be asked, and it’s incumbent upon you to prepare for each of these question types in advance. Below, we’ll be taking a comprehensive look at the various types of question as well as the theory underpinning many of the concepts.

At the conclusion of this section, you will have the opportunity to examine what you’ve learned through a detailed self-assessment quiz – something you can use to consolidate your study as you progress through each section. First, though, we are going to take a look at the composition of the exam and how you can prepare to maximize your overall mark.

About ASVAB Electronics Information Exam

The ASVAB Electronics Information test is but one exam of your overall ASVAB test – a test composed of nine different tests. There are two different mechanisms by which the exam can be taken: written and computerized versions. This is a relevant distinction given these exams each have different quantities of questions and different allotted times. You can find the relevant EI exam information in the table below. The allotted time is almost insignificantly different for this ASVAB Electronics Information test – meaning you have exactly 30 seconds to answer each question. This doesn’t mean, of course, you need to rush the exam – but you should remain cognizant of the speed of delivery expected for each answer.

The ASVAB Electronics Information result does not affect the AFQT Score. This Armed Forces Qualification Test score is used as a measure of intelligence – but is only measured through results from Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, and Word Knowledge. Instead, the ASVAB Electronics Information result goes toward what’s known as the MOS Score – or Military Occupational Speciality. The MOS Score is akin to an aptitude score, allowing you to determine which military speciality uses the value of the test. For example, if you wished to enlist in a military maintenance role, you would need to calculate a composite score from the results of Automotive and Shop Information, Mechanical Comprehension, and Electronics Information.

So – in other words – you need to determine which particular military speciality you wish to enlist in, and discover what the composite score, or MOS Score, for that speciality is. With this in mind, we’ll turn our heads to the type of question you can expect to see on the ASVAB Electronics Information exam.

The next section builds on this introduction by going into greater detail of the syllabus of the exam and what you should expect to see.
