Knowing the exact syllabus of the ASVAB General Science exam is difficult to clarify. After all, there is no designated curriculum and, instead, we need to rely on the type and style of question you can anticipate on the exam. We also know the difficulty of these questions, and one can safely say the standard one should expect is one from high school. It’s quite easy to read too much into one particular science, and you would be advised against doing so. At the same time, though, these rough parameters allow us to sketch out the subjects that will definitely appear on the exam and how you can structure your study accordingly.

The following list is a convenient guideline of what you should prepare for in the weeks and months ahead of the ASVAB General Science exam.

  • Biology

You will only need to focus on specific topics; such as the human body, the fundamentals of the cell, and learning about the environment.

  • Chemistry

Try not to be daunted, as you only need the fundamentals. Topics such as the periodic table, atoms, basic equations, and materials tend to pop up.

  • Physics

In this section, the type of questions you can expect focus on light, electronics, magnetism, heat, and Newton’s laws.

  • Earth Science

Try to become familiar with basic operations and facts of the Solar System and, more particularly, Earth. When it comes to our planet, you should focus on the atmosphere, type of rocks, and the central facts about weather.

This sketches out a rough approximation of where your study should be directed. You will become more familiar with each of these topics by the end of this ASVAB General Science study guide. In addition, the quiz at the end of this guide will give you a greater sense of the type and style of question asked in the exam. Some of these topics will already be familiar to many of you, particularly if you recall back to high school study. At the same time, though, you will need to become reacquainted with this material, something this study guide also endeavors to help you with.

If we think back to the number of questions in the exam, it will help place things into perspective. In the computerized format, you are expected to answer 16 questions in 8 minutes. This works out at approximately 30 seconds per question. You need to spend this time wisely, as much of it will be spent reading the question and the four possible answers. The resources here at ASVAB Test Study will help you to acclimate to this pressure, meaning you will be fully prepared for the pressure of time the exam will inevitably cause. Always try to keep this factor in mind as we continue our studies in ASVAB General Science.
